World religious leaders’ Baku Summit is launched
26.04.2010The two-day Baku Summit of world religious leaders started in Gulustan Palace, April 26.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony.
Over 200 high-level representatives of world religions from 33 countries are participating in the summit. Heads of 14 influential international organizations, as well as religious leaders and representatives of the Russian Federation’s 11 subjects joined the event.
Participants of the summit first had official photos taken.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed the summit.
Russia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin read President Dimitri Medvedev’s congratulation letter to the summit participants.
Chairperson of the Caucasian Muslims Department Sheikholislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus Kirill the 2nd, Turkey’s Religious Affairs Chief Ali Bardakoğlu, Catholicos-Patriarch of Armenians Garegin the 2nd, UNESCO’s representative Bendev Badarch, representative of the Papal Council for interreligious dialogue, Cardinal Jan Lui Taran, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, Metropolitan Nikitas, representative of the Islamic Conference Organization, Ambassador Sadeddin Tasib, Patriarch of the Czech and Slovakia Christopher, representative of the European Rabbis Conference Pinkhas Goldschmidt, Metropolitan Gerasim, Sanjevlama Rimpochet, acting on behalf of the Russian Idolaters, and ISESCO’s Director General Abdulaziz bin Othman Al-Tweijri spoke at the Summit.
After the break, the Baku Summit of the world religious leaders continued its work.
