Azerbaijani sportsmen win gold medals, sportswomen winning silver medals, at the “Baku-2017” Judo team competitions

On May 15, on the last day of the judo competitions at the Heydar Aliyev Sports Palace in the framework of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, teams competed for victory.

Azerbaijan’s national men’s team finished the competitions with a gold medal, while our women’s national team won a silver medal.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Chairperson of the Baku-2017 Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva watched the finals of the team competitions among men-judoists.

Our national team, taking victory over the national team of Algeria in the final competition with the score of 3:2, won the gold medal.

At the competition, Azerbaijan was represented by Nijat Shykhalizadeh (66kg), Rustam Orujov (73kg), Rufat Ismayilov (81kg), Mammadali Mehdiyev (90kq) and Ushangi Kokauri (+90kg).

National teams of Turkey and Uzbekistan were awarded bronze medals.

Then, a ceremony of awarding the sportsmen took place.

The Head of the State presented medals to the members of the winning teams.

The state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our judoists, and the state flag raised.

On the same day, Azerbaijan’s national women’s team, having been defeated by the Turkish national team (0:5), took the second place at the Islamiada.

Then, a ceremony of awarding the sportswomen took place.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva watched the awarding ceremony.

Thus, at the judo competitions of the “Baku-2017” 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, Azerbaijani sportsmen/sportswomen won, altogether, 26 medals – 11 gold, 12 silver and 3 bronze.
