On August 29, inauguration of the statue of eminent composer of Azerbaijan Uzeir Hajibeyli took place in Shusha city.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration ceremony.
The head of the state and the first lady unveiled the statue.
In 1985, a statue of Uzeir Hajibeyli was erected in Shusha city to celebrate the composer’s 100-year jubilee. Made by sculptor Ahmad Salikov, the statue was completely destroyed in 1992, having been subjected to Armenian vandalism during the 1st Karabakh War. A new statue was made following Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s instruction.
According to the information given, as there was no model of the statue left, the new statue was created based on the photos published in that time’s press and kept in archives.
Made of bronze with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the statue is erected in its previous place in Shusha city. The statue was made by sculptors Aslan Rustamov, Teymur Rustamov, and Mahmud Rustamov.
