Visit to France
Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva was on a visit to France, April 2-4, 2007.
Meeting with French Premier Minister’s spouse Marie-Laure de Villepin
On April 2, Mehriban Aliyeva met French Premier Minister’s spouse Marie-Laure de Villepin at the residence of the French Premier Minister.
At the meeting with Mehriban Aliyeva, Madame Marie-Laure de Villepin talked about the history of Matignon Palace, one of the oldest architectural monuments of Paris, and acquainted her with rooms of the palace.
Matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting, and significance of holding an exchange of experience on various issues between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Association headed by Marie-Laure de Villepin was emphasized.
After the meeting, a dinner was given on behalf of Marie-Laure de Villepin in honour of Mehriban Aliyeva.
Visit to Necker Hospital of Paris
On April 2, Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Necker Hospital, where thalassemia patients receive treatment.
Mariane de Montalembert, the head of the Paediatric division and chief specialist for thalassemia disease, informed Mehriban Aliyeva of the hospital activities. Mehriban Aliyeva paid a visit to patients.
The First Lady was presented a book about the history and activities of hospitals in Paris. Mehriban Aliyeva presented a souvenir to the hospital.
Visiting a jewellery exhibition in Paris
On April 2, Mehriban Aliyeva visited a jewellery exhibition opened in the building of the Luxembourg Museum in Paris.
Mehriban Aliyeva was informed of the exhibition’s history, as well as jewellery and precious stones being displayed here.
Meeting with French Senate’s President Christian Poncelet
On April 2, Mehriban Aliyeva met French Senate’s President Christian Poncelet.
Christian Poncelet expressed gratification with the developing relations between Azerbaijan and France, and emphasized that France was interested in peaceful solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Daghlyg Garabagh conflict.
Mehriban Aliyeva invited Mr Poncolet to visit Azerbaijan. The Senate President accepted the invitation and said he would soon make a trip to Azerbaijan.
After the meeting, Christian Poncelet acquainted Mehriban Aliyeva with the Senate building’s history, halls, items reflecting its past, and the park, and informed of the flowers and decorative bushes and rare tree types brought from around the world and planted in the park.
Then, a dinner was given in honour of Mehriban Aliyeva.
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors Annual Reporting Assembly
On April 3, traditional annual reporting assembly of UNESCO goodwill ambassadors took place in the central headquarters of the organization.
Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the assembly.
Meeting with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus
On April 3, after the annual assembly of UNESCO, Mehriban Aliyeva met with Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus.
Meeting with Queen of Jordan Rania Al Abdullah
On April 3, Mehriban Aliyeva met with the Queen of Jordan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Rania Al Abdullah.
After the meeting, a concert entitled “Jordanian Treasures Evening” with Jordanian songs and dances.
Then a dinner party was arranged.

At a meeting held in the building of the French Foreign Ministry, cooperation between our countries, including cultural relations were touched upon.

On April 4, Mehriban Aliyeva met with French Minister of Culture and Communication Reno Donedio de Vabre.
Meeting with President of the French National Assembly Patrick Ollier
On April 4, Mehriban Aliyeva met with President of the French National Assembly Patrick Ollier.
Exchange of opinions on the relations between the two countries was held during the meeting.
