First vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall be appointed to and relieved from the office by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In case of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan resigning ahead of time, extraordinary elections of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall be held within 60 days. In this case, until the new President of the Republic of Azerbaijan is elected, the First vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan shall carry out the authorities of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On February 21, 2017, Mehriban Aliyeva was appointed First vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan. |
