On October 29, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were on a visit to Sheki city.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva put flowers before the monument erected to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Sheki.

The President and the First Lady were given information about the works carried out in the district.

On October 29, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the Heydar Aliyev Centre constructed in Sheki city.

While becoming acquainted with the works carried out in the Heydar Aliyev Centre, information was given about the newly erected monument to the National Leader. Construction of the Heydar Aliyev Centre started in March 2018. High quality construction works were completed in October this year. Extensive improvement and greenery planting works have been carried out on the territory.

A large assembly hall has been created in the Heydar Aliyev Centre, with total area of 3700 square metres, to hold various events. Recent years, wedding ceremonies of young couples have been held in the Heydar Aliyev centres operating throughout the republic. Necessary conditions have been created also in the Heydar Aliyev Centre built in Sheki for this purpose. Service rooms provided with computers and other state-of-the-art equipment will be functioning in the centre. A foreign language laboratory comprising sections of different purposes, meeting rooms for 20 and 60 people, painting and photo studios, an electronic library, and computer, dance and intellectual game courses will be functioning in the centre. Necessary conditions have also been created here to hold various events.

On October 29, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the Flag Museum in Sheki.

According to the information given, the museum is located in the Flag Square. The base of the 72.4m-tall flag pole has been rebuilt, improvement and greenery planting works carried out on the territory, trees and rose shrubs planted, light poles installed, and fountains basically repaired.

Construction of the Flag Museum started in March 2018. The construction works were completed in October this year. Along with the exhibition hall, administrative and secondary rooms have been created in the Flag Museum. There are three sections in the exhibition hall. The map of Azerbaijan’s khanates era, models reflecting Middle Age fighters, flags of the khanates, emblems of the 19th century Azerbaijani cities, ancient metal coins, and paper monies are demonstrated there.

Among the exhibits of the museum are displayed constitutions, emblems, flags, post stamps, orders and medals related to the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan SSR, and the period of independence.

On October 29, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the Sheki-Kish motor road.

The road is 7.2 km long. Due to the lack of any repair works being carried out for a long time, the Sheki-Kish motor road had fallen into disrepair, which had been causing traffic problems. Reconstruction of the Sheki-Kish motor road, which links two settlements with the population of 17 thousand people, has been carried out in accordance with the Resolution of the Azerbaijani President.

Following the Resolution of the Azerbaijani President, restoration works have been carried out also on the bridge over Kish River. The newly constructed bridge is 88.2 metres long, with the traffic section being 8 metres wide. 1.5 metre wide pedestrian pavements have been created on both sides of the bridge. The one-span bridge is 7 metres high above the river bed.

On October 29, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of the “ASAN Hayat” complex in Sheki.

Construction of the complex, located at Zarifa Aliyeva Street, started in 2017. The construction works were completed in October this year.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva became familiarized with the conditions created in the complex.

“ASAN Profession” centre, a project by the State Agency for Serving Citizens and Social Innovations, has also been created at Sheki “ASAN Hayat” complex.

The President and the First Lady became familiarized with “ASAN Profession” centre.

There is a separate section in the complex to provide utility services.

President Ilham Aliyev became familiarized with the innovations in the centre.

“CoWorking” centre too will be functioning in Sheki “ASAN Hayat” complex. The centre is a common workplace for new businesses – start-ups, intended for the incubation period. Freelancers and those working individually may also use this model. In general, the model is sustainable, and sustainability is ensured by renting work places.

A playground, fountain and benches, a recreation ground, a car parking area, a summer cafe and a bus stop for those coming from other districts have been created on an area of 2.4 hectares allocated to “ASAN Hayat”.

On October 29, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of a new building for the mixed type children home constructed in Sheki city by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

According to the information given, the previous building of the mixed type children home at Genjler street in Sheki was constructed in 1897 as a private house by merchant from Sheki Zulgadar Zulfugarov, and was used for this purpose until 1930. Since 1930, the Sheki city mixed type children home had been operating in this house. As the building where the children home was located was in emergency condition and the existing infrastructure did not allow easy inhabitation, it was impossible to provide proper service to children. In 2017, representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation became familiarized with the existing conditions in the Sheki mixed type children home. With a view to improving the living conditions of the children residing in the children home, organizing their education and leisure, construction of a new building started following the instructions given by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva. A two-storied building with total area of over 2 thousand square metres was constructed in an area of one hectare allocated for the children home in Sheki city.

The children home is designed for 80 children of all age groups. 60 children aged 3 to 20, deprived of parental protection, from Sheki and neighbouring districts are dwelling in the children home. The building accommodates sleeping rooms for 2, 3 and 4 people, located separately for girls and boys, provided with necessary inventory and equipment, as well as nurse rooms, a library, computer rooms, a music room, a workshop, a sports hall, physician and medical nurse rooms, a recreation room to make sure children spend their free time efficiently, a kitchen, a canteen, and a laundry. A kindergarten for preschool age groups designed for 20 children is also functioning here.

A sports ground with the area of a thousand square metres has been built in the children home’s front yard. In addition, shelters and a playground for under-age children have been created in the open air. Green zones have been laid out on the territory, where various fruit trees and other types of tree are planted. The area where the building is located has been improved, covered with asphalt and stone plates, and an illumination system installed. A basement to meet the administrative and economic requirements has been constructed, and a permanent water, heating and cooling system, a generator, stabiliser, as well as fire alarm and video surveillance systems installed. Necessary equipment and a bus have been donated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the children home.

On October 29, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, within the framework of their visit to Sheki, attended the inauguration of “ABAD” Ceramics and Applied Art Centre.

The building of the Sheki Ceramics and Applied Art Centre of “ABAD” public legal person was constructed late in the 19th century, later to be used as a military barrack. Fallen into disrepair, the building was later reconstructed with Pasha Holding’s support. The centre has been provided with state-of-the-art equipment.

There are also recreation rooms in the two-storied building for the employees and those to join the trainings. Here are also a heating furnace and training rooms, storehouses for raw material and ready products, an ethno-boutique, office, and a carpet weaving room.

In short, all conditions have been created at the centre for those who are engaged in the pottery and applied art.

The centre’s objective is to preserve the pottery traditions of our country, in particular, Sheki, and conveying them to future generations, as well as introducing various types of Azerbaijani clay to the world.

Sales of the products made by artisans will also be organized at the Sheki Ceramics and Applied Art Centre.
