President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva familiarise themselves with the conditions created at “Beylar” Mosque after restoration works
24.12.2016On December 24, presentation of “Beylar” Mosque in Icherisheher took place after the restoration and conservation works.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event.
The Head of the State and his spouse first became familiarized with the exposition “Holy deposits” created at the mosque.
“Beylar” Mosque was constructed in 1895. Built on the territory of Icherisheher, this last mosque is distinguished for its grandeur and construction order as compared with other religious monuments. Construction principles of Europe, East and local architecture were applied in its construction. With perfect appearance, the minaret’s upper part has been adorned with decorative patterns characteristic of Western Europe. Artistic stone-carving art samples have been skilfully used in the mosque’s hall and sanctuary. This architectural monument has been built in place of an ancient mosque.
Restoration and conservation works on “Beylar” Mosque have been performed by Austria’s famous restaurateur-expert Erich Pummer, invited by the Icherisheher State History and Architecture Reserve. “Icherisheher Traditional Art Centre” participated in the restoration of the mosque carried out in 2014-2015; they decorated windows and doors with architectural elements. As a result, “Holy deposits” exposition was created in the mosque, turned into museum according to its purpose.
Books of Qur’an, a holy deposit of the Islamic religion, related to different periods, are displayed in the exhibition. Here are displayed 73 books of Qur’an, 7 religious books, 19 religious attributes, in general, 99 exhibits. Sheets of books protected from fire, the Qur’an related to Derbent mosque, which had been protected by being built into the wall by the akhund, as well as fragments of Qur’an being displayed here are among exhibits drawing attention. Holy deposits collected from various regions of Azerbaijan have been discovered in libraries subjected to fire, and private mansions.
