Presentation of the Baku-2015 First European Games takes place in Moscow
10.04.2015Presentation of the Baku-2015 First European Games to be held in Azerbaijan took place in Moscow, April 10.
Azerbaijan’s First Lady, Chairperson of the First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva, Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva attended the ceremony.
Organized with joint support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Azerbaijan’s Embassy in the Russian Federation, held at Ukraine Hotel’s Congress Centre, the event was joined by representatives of Russian public and political circles, international sports society, persons of culture and other influential guests.
The guests first viewed an exhibition devoted to the Baku-2015 First European Games. Various publications prepared by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, including booklets devoted to the first European Games, were distributed among the attendees.
Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the ceremony.
Speaking later, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Jukov said: “It is pleasing that the nice city of Baku, Azerbaijan, has been entrusted with holding of the first European Games. This was indeed a right decision. We know how Azerbaijani people love sports. We know that Baku has held numerous large competitions on a high level and has much experience in this field. I have no doubt Baku will hold these Games very successfully”.
Alexander Jukov said his country treats the European Games very seriously and the strongest sportsmen will participate in these Games in the Russian team to join the Games: “We have a good tradition – a tradition of creating a Russian Team House. We want to build such a house in Baku. Our joint sports history will be demonstrated in there. This will be very interesting both for the residents of Baku and visitors of the Games – foreign tourists, foreign fans and fans of our Russian team. I would like to wish successes both to the Organizing Committee and everyone who will receive best sportsmen of Europe in Baku”.
Visitors of the ceremony watched a documentary devoted to the Baku-2015 First European Games. Preparation for Baku-2015, significant projects implemented in Baku in connection with the competitions have been reflected in the documentary.
