Inauguration of the State Flag Square takes place in Baku

Inauguration of the State Flag Square took place in Baku, September 1.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration.

The Head of the State addressed the ceremony.

A documentary talking about the role of the state flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in formation and strengthening of the national solidarity of our nation, as well as construction of the State Flag Square was demonstrated.

With total area of 60 hectares, the top section being 31 thousand square metres, the Flag Square has been provided with all necessary infrastructure.

The support of the flag is 162 metres high, with the foundation’s diameter 3.2 metres, upper part of the foundation being 1.09 metres. Total weight of the installation is 220 tons. The flag is 35 metres wide, 70 metres long, with total area of 2450 square metres, weighing 350 kilos. The Guinness World Records Book confirmed, May 29, 2010, the support of the Azerbaijani flag being the highest in the world.

Following the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, the State Flag Museum has been created at the Square.

The ceremony was finalized by fireworks.

	Gobustan Gobustan is located near Baku city. It is over 15 thousand years old. In pictures drawn on Gobustan rocks, the life and thoughts of our ancestors are depicted.
