President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva watch taekwondo competitions within the framework of the 1st European Games

On June 1, taekwondo competitions took place in other two weight categories at Baku Crystal Hall within the framework of the 1^st European Games.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Chairperson of Baku-2105 1^st European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva watched the competitions.

Aykhan Taghyzadeh, who represents Azerbaijan in the 68-kg weight category, started the competition from the preliminary phase. Our compatriot, having defeated Yure Pantar from Slovenia with the score 11:3, competed in the fourth-finals with Spanish Joel Gonzales Bonilla, a winner of the London Olympic Games, twofold world and twofold European champion. Having defeated his rival with the score 7:5, Aykhan Taghyzadeh won the right to participate in the semi-finals. In this phase, Aykhan Taghyzadeh defeated Russian sportsman Aleksey Denisenko and reached the finals.

In the finals, Aykhan Taghyzadeh competed with Polish Karol Robak. Having gained a decisive victory over his rival, our sportsman won the title of a champion of the 1^st European Games.
