Meeting with Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin

On June 24, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva met with Under-Secretary-General for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social AffairsLiu Zhenmin, who is participating in the UN Public Service Forum in Baku.

Mehriban Aliyeva, thanking for the decision to hold the Public Service Forum of the United Nations in Azerbaijan, expressed a hope that the Forum’s outcomes would be useful for processes associated with reforms on public services, and for the states participating in exchange of opinions and experience in this sphere. Underscoring the successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, she highly appreciated the support provided by the UN to over one million refugees and IDP in Azerbaijan, as a result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Daghlyg Garabagh conflict, since the first days of Azerbaijan’s regaining its state independence. Touching upon the economic achievements reached by Azerbaijan in the recent years, Mehriban Aliyeva underscored that the country has hosted a number of reputable international events, expressing confidence that the UN Public Service Forum in Baku too would be successful.

Expressing gratitude for the pleasant words, Liu Zhenminthanked the Azerbaijani leadership for the high-level organization of the Forum. Liu Zhenmin noted that numerous representatives were participating in the regular Forum being held in Baku in connection with public services. Mentioning that public services were performed perfectly and on a high level in Azerbaijan, the under-secretary-general for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairssaid that all these works were possible thanks to the leadership of the Azerbaijani President. Underscoring that the UN was engaged in the implementation of the agenda on the Sustainable Development Targets for 2032 together with 193 member-states, the guest said improvement of the public services’ level was of special importance.
