President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva are on a visit to Shamakhy district

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the Pirgulu-Demirchi motorway after basic reconstruction, October 2.

As a result of the works done, the Pirgulu-Demirchi motorway, having 2 traffic lanes, has been rebuilt to comply with the 4th technical degree. The road’s traffic section is 3.5 to 4 metres, with the road bed being 7 to 8 metres, including the road shoulder. 14 catch water pipes in different diameters were built along the road, with total length of 210 metres. 92 road signs have been installed, where necessary, in order to arrange normal movement of transport facilities on the motorway, road marking lines with total length of 24 thousand metres painted, with 3 bus stops built in three locations.

Construction of this motorway will facilitate transportation of civilians and goods, by linking 5 villages situated in the mountainous area of Shamakhy district, with total population of 1.6 thousand people.

On October 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva made themselves familiarized with the works carried out in Demirchi village.

The works done here - being of complex nature – were performed in several directions. First, the mosque in the village was restored. One of the oldest mosques in the country, the Demirchi Mosque was built in 755, later being restored by an instruction of President Ilham Aliyev.

The Head of the State was presented Qur’an in the Demirchi Mosque.

A series of projects have been implemented here for the recreation of the population and tourists, making their walk more interesting, which includes also the activity of the public legal entity “ABAD”, established within the State Agency for Serving Citizens and Social Innovations under the President, providing for building a family business and sale of the products being the result of such business. Here, tourists are offered various souvenirs, handicrafts, and ready products cover all the regions. Interesting entertainment and recreation places have been created in the village. One of them is tandirs put in several places. Tourists are going to witness the unique hospitality of Demirchi village in the course of a year. They will be presented national dishes related to this particular region.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva helped themselves to a hot bread from tandir. There has also been an exhibition opened in the village, consisting of exhibits of the Shamakhy History and Ethnography Museum. These exhibits will give extensive idea to the tourists about the old history of Shamakhy. Here will also be used exhibition-compositions that would arouse interest in tourists. Moreover, various household items will add interesting moments to the recreation of the population and tourists.

The Head of the State and the First Lady were invited to tea in Demirchi village.

“Azerkhalcha” OJSC also has its place in the Demirchi tourism infrastructure. Carpets to be woven here will then be sold to tourists, and this project will glorify the Azerbaijani carpets further.

Construction of new objects of folk art have always been a focus of attention during the restoration and reconstruction works. With a view to reviving the art of blacksmith and ensuring that more interest is shown toward this area, a blacksmith shop and a workshop were created in the village.

The Azerbaijani President and the First Lady familiarized themselves with the blacksmith shop and workshop.

President Ilham Aliyev was shown the design of the Demirchi Archaeological and Ethnography Museum to be constructed here.

In the framework of the project, along with Shamakhy, information and exhibits related to the historical past of whole Shirvan will be displayed, and a museum will be created in the open air.

On October 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva familiarized themselves with the newly created Shamakhy Safari Park.

While becoming familiarized with the park, the Head of the State and the First Lady were told that a 480-hectar territory has been fenced in accordance with international standards, within the boundaries of the 620-hectar mountain-forest area, called Pirgulu, on the territory of Shamakhy, in order to create an ecological reserve for the wildlife, to accomplish the tasks set in “The Strategic Road Map on the Development of Specialized Tourism Industry in Azerbaijan”. 420 red deer, fallow-deer and moufflons, valuable in genetic terms, have been brought here from Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Hungary, and released into a protected area. As a result of selection and veterinary measures, the number of these animals increased about twofold. At the moment, there are 790 animals, including 260 red deer, 250 moufflons, and 280 fallow-deer.

Significant works have been carried out also towards creating the internal infrastructure of the ecological park. So, a 36 kilometre-long wide road has been built. In addition, a lot of natural shelters were created for animals. A 52 kilometre-long fence, fastened onto reinforced concrete supports, meeting international standards, has been built in order to safeguard the red deer, fallow-deer and moufflon against contagious diseases, as well as to protect them from outside impacts. Moreover, an administrative building and a guest house have been constructed on the park’s territory. Extensive improvement works have been carried out on the territory of the administrative building a the guest house.
