First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watch the struggle of women-wrestlers
21.05.2017On May 21, on the last day of the wrestling competitions in the framework of the “Baku-2017” 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, our women-wrestlers struggled for medals.
At the competitions held in eight weight categories in the Heydar Aliyev Sports Arena, our women-wrestlers, having won 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal, took the first place.
First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the “Baku-2017” 4th Islamic Solidarity Games Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watched our sportswomen’s struggling for medals.
Mehriban Aliyeva presented medals to the winners in the 48 and 69kg weight categories.
The state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our sportswomen, and the state flag raised.
Maria Stadnik, competing in the 48kg weight category, taking clear victory over Turkish representative Evin Demirhan in the decisive struggle, won the gold medal.
Our young wrestler Leyla Gurbanova (53kg), defeating Burcu Kebici from Turkey with full superiority in the first fight, winning Aygul Nuralima from Kazakhstan in the second, won the title of a champion of the Islamiada.
Competing in the 60 kg weight category, Azerbaijani representative Tatyana Omelchenko rose to the highest step of the honorary rostrum. On a way leading to championship, our sportswoman prematurely defeated Tiako Essombeni from Cameroon and Qamze Nur Adakan from Turkey by a clear victory.
Our other sportswoman Elis Manolova (69kg) competed in a decisive struggle against wrestler from Kazakhstan Jamila Bakbergenova. Defeating her rival, Elis Manolova won a gold medal of the Islamiada.
Azerbaijani sportswoman, bronze medal winner of the first European Games, champion of the Continent Natalya Sinshin (55kg), got the silver medal in the competition against Nigerian Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye.
Among our women-wrestlers, Alyona Kolesnik (58kg) won another silver medal. A champion of Europe, our sportswoman took the second place in the struggle against Aysulu Tinibekova from Kirgizstan.
The third medal to our national wrestling team comprised of women was brought by Sabira Aliyeva, a wrestler competing in the 75 kg weight category. Winning in three consecutive fights, our wrestler won the silver medal in the struggle against Yasemin Adar from Turkey.
Elmira Gambarova (63kg) won a bronze medal to the national team of Azerbaijan comprised of women. Our sportswoman defeated Berte Emilen Etan Nqolla from Cameroon in the fight for the third place.
Thus, men and women’s teams of Azerbaijan won, in general, 12 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals in the Islamiada. Our wrestlers on Greco-Roman wrestling took 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals. Our freestyle wrestlers won 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal for our national team. And our women-wrestlers finished the Islamiada with 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medal.
