The foundation of reconstruction and repair-restoration works is laid in Pirshaghy settlement of Baku

On April 16, measures on reconstruction were launched in Pirshaghy settlement of Baku, and the foundation of repair and restoration works was laid.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event.

Based on Ilham Aliyev’s instruction, special improvement works were launched in settlements of Baku city and Absheron district. We have witnessed a successful practice in Balakhany settlement. This process is going on also in Bibiheybat, Novkhany, Amirjan and Ramana settlements.

Pirshaghy too, will gain its new image in terms of form, yet keeping its old essence. The primary objective of the measures taken is to make sure that residents of these places live in better conditions, feeling themselves more comfortably. Historically, Pirshaghy has been considered a favourable zone in terms of climatic therapy. Improvement of the ecological conditions has been set as another goal.

Improvement works in the settlement will be performed both on existing buildings and in open places. A park corresponding to Oriental gardening traditions is expected to be laid out before the mosque, in the central area. A water basin will be at the centre of the park, to be laid out following the principle of “Char-bagh” (“Chahar-bagh”), with ways running in four directions.

Improvement works in Pirshaghy will also have a positive impact on employment. The great majority of people to be employed for the process will consist of local residents. With the goal to turn the settlement into one of the tourist destinations in the post-pandemic period, with its new image, it is expected that production of commodities would be made possible in Pirshaghy, to meet the demand.

Bunyad Gasymov: We have planted four varieties, including White Shany and Black Shany.

President Ilham Aliyev: They were very sweet, like honey.

Restoration and discovery of historical monuments is among the main goals while performing these improvement works. From this point of view, Hajji Shaverdi Hammam is one of the buildings to be restored and preserved in Pirshaghy. This bath-house was built by Hajji Shahverdi, a resident of Pirshaghy, in the 19^th century. Locally, it is known as “Gum Hamamy”.

This year, Mardakan, Buzovna and Mashtagha settlements too are expected to join this process.

Being implemented in settlements of Baku city and Absheron district, these projects are of special importance, both in historical point of view, and also taking into account the existing realities. First of all, styles of the local school of architecture and its unique colours are revived, to be handed over to future generations. From the standpoint of post-war realities and the existing pandemic, it is obvious that our economic strength has greatly increased, and, despite global challenges, no social project was cut back.

Talking about the designs of the reconstruction works in Pirshaghy settlement, Bunyad Gasymov told that a joint competition had been announced together with the State Town-building and Architecture Committee. Over 20 works were collected to prepare the conceptual design of the reconstruction works in the settlement. No doubt, features of the settlement, climate of the place, the culture of Absheron and other factors will be taken into consideration.
