President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva are on a visit to Shamkir district

On November 1, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev went on a visit to Shamkir district.

President Ilham Aliyev first paid a visit to the monument erected to Azerbaijani people’s national leader Heydar Aliyev in the avenue named after the national leader in Shamkir town. The Head of the State and the First Lady put flowers before the monument.

President Ilham Aliyev, having viewed the Heydar Park laid out here, highly appreciated the conditions created for the residents’ rest, improvement works done, and the order arranged along the avenue.

On November 1, inauguration of the Heydar Aliyev Museum took place in Shamkir town.

President Ilham Aliyev cut a ribbon signifying the opening, and became familiarized with the museum.

With total area of 567 square metres, the two-storied building accommodates a language laboratory, administrative rooms and an archive on the first floor, with two exposition salons and an electronic library on the second floor.

In the exposition made on the design provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation are demonstrated photos related to national leader’s childhood and youth years, years of his work at national security bodies, both periods of his leadership of the republic, development and implementation of Azerbaijan’s oil strategy, his activities on army-building, his visits to foreign countries, as well as various books. Information about the national leader’s life and creativity has been saved into computer memories and hard disks. Special courses will be opened, enjoying the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s support, for most active youth and pupils of the district.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva viewed with great interest a painting by artist Afag Kerimova entitled “Heydar Aliyev and the Saviour of Azerbaijan”, reflecting the national leader’s historical merits on individual fields, then familiarized themselves with the exposition of the museum, including photos reflecting the visits of the eternally living national leader to Shamkir in 1972, 1979, 1998 and 2000, and meetings he had held here, as well as a bust of the national leader made by People’s Artist Natig Aliyev.

President Ilham Aliyev underscored the importance of the youth’s studying Heydar Aliyev’s legacy, using such museums as a centre.

The Head of the State wrote his heartfelt words in the Honorary Guests Book of the museum.

On November 1, President Ilham Aliyev attended the ceremony of laying the foundation of the Olympic Sports Complex on the Baku-Gazakh highway in Shamkir town.

The President was given comprehensive information about the Olympic Sports Complex. It was noted that this complex, which had been provided for in the state programme for social and economic development of the regions, includes sports games, wrestling, boxing and weight lifting halls, a sports ground, swimming pool, two tennis courts, a hotel for 30, a canteen for 73, a football pitch with seats for 2 thousand people, a car parking area, and one-storied cottages. With construction works to be completed within two years, the complex’s design has been developed by “Azerinshaatlayihe” Institute, ordered by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

The Head of the State, signing a sheet where the words “The foundation of this complex was laid on 1 November 2006 by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev”, put in the capsule. The capsule was dropped down onto the foundation, the President poured the first concrete mixture onto the foundation and gave his blessing to the construction.

Then a ceremony took place in connection with the foundation-laying. The President of Azerbaijan addressed the ceremony.

Then President Ilham Aliyev met with representatives of the district community, talked with them, inquired about their well-being, took interest in their problems and concerns.

On November 1, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the Shamkir-Gazakh highway.

Construction workers, representatives of the construction companies and citizens sincerely welcomed the Head of the State and the First Lady, presenting them bunches of flowers.

The President was given information about the characteristics of the highway.

On November 1, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva arrived at Zarifa Aliyeva Park, located in the centre of Shamkir town, which is one of the most favourite places of rest for the citizens. Here has been erected a monument to the eminent ophthalmologist. The President and the First Lady put bunches of flowers before the monument.

On November 1, President Ilham Aliyev paid a visit to the poultry farm of “AtaSanaye” Ltd. located in Yeni Hayat village of Shamkir district owned by “Ata Holding” group of companies.

The President was given information about the enterprise.

President Ilham Aliyev became familiarized with the production sites, the laboratory of the company, took interest in the sales and quality of the products.

After the familiarization with the enterprise, the Head of the State was presented souvenirs.

On November 1, at the end of his visit to Shamkir, President Ilham Aliyev arrived at the Secondary School named after martyr I. Aliyev in Fuzuli settlement.

The school’s teaching staff sincerely welcomed the President and the First Lady with great respect, and with bunches of flowers.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva viewed individual subject laboratories, computer and classrooms, becoming familiarized with the conditions created. They were informed that 373 pupils are educated in two shifts in this school, basically repaired by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Computers have been linked with Internet, the heating system renewed.

It was told that a state-of-the-art equipment has been provided for pupils’ learning a foreign language. The President, positively appreciating this, said children should know the English and Russian languages, but other languages are also important.
