President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva are on a visit to Ganja city

On October 31, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in the old city of Ganja.

The President and the First Lady were greeted in the newly constructed Ganja International Airport with great respect and esteem, presenting them bunches of flowers.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the Ganja International Airport.

39.5 million Dollars were spent for the reconstruction of the Ganja International Airport, to meet modern standards, as provided under the State Program for Social and Economic Development of Regions. 1500 people were involved in the reconstruction works. The airport equipment installed in the Soviet time has been completely replaced. The 3,300-metre long new runway will allow to receive heavy-duty aircrafts. All necessary conditions have been created here to ensure passengers’ comfort. Flights are planned to be arranged to Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kiev, Baku, Nakhchivan, Tabriz, Qars, Rostov, Volgograd and Mineralniye Vody, using A-319 airbuses and AN-140 aircrafts. When necessary, shipments will be arranged by IL-76 and AN-12 aircrafts. Various flights will be arranged from the Ganja Airport for foreign companies operating in Azerbaijan. This airport will also be used as a transit reserve airport for aircrafts of both Azerbaijan and foreign countries carrying out flights from here to Europe and Asia. 200 new jobs have been created in the airport.

On October 31, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the swimming pool of the Ganja Olympic Sports Complex.

With the construction having been financed by Azersun Holding, the pool is an enclosed sports facility 25 metre long, 15 metre wide and 2 metre deep. 150 seats have been installed here for onlookers. Competitions of international level too can be arranged here. Expansion of the complex is one of the measures taken by the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee towards developing sport in regions.

President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with secondary rooms and gymnastics hall of the complex.

The President also viewed the volleyball and basketball pitches around the complex, with seats for 150 onlookers, walked around the Olympic Complex, and gave necessary recommendations.

On October 31, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev paid a visit to the monument erected to national leader Heydar Aliyev on the central square of Ganja.

The Head of the State and the First Lady put flowers before the monument.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev, familiarizing himself with the reconstruction and development works on the central square, viewed an eye-pleasing colourful fountain accompanied by music.

President Ilham Aliyev walked the park created for Ganja citizens’ recreation, gave his recommendations with regard to rebuilding the spring complex here and reshaping it in a modern design.

On October 31, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the chocolate factory “Jardin Royal” in Ganja city.

The President was informed that, operating mostly on a French technology, this factory employed some 120 people, with salaries between 100 and 500 Manats. Over 20 varieties of product are produced in the factory. Along with meeting the local requirement, products of the factory will also be exported to a foreign market. The factory is expected to be expanded in future, creating new production areas.

President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with the production process, took interest in the operation of the equipment, and expressed his content with the activity of this high-level factory. The Head of the State said such state-of-the-art enterprises will have a positive impact on the social and economic development in regions.

President Ilham Aliyev familiarized himself with the state-of-the-art canteen in the factory, giving instructions with regard to employees having free lunches here.
