Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva was on a visit to Russia, October 25, 2006.

Jubilee of People’s Artist of USSR Galina Vishnevskaya in Moscow

On October 25, jubilee of Galina Vishnevskaya, a well-known opera singer, People’s Artist of USSR, the wife of famous musician Mstislav Rostropovich, was celebrated in Moscow. Mehriban Aliyeva attended the jubilee ceremony.

A Gala Concert called “Vivat Vishnevskaya!”, organized by the Opera Performance Centre and State Academic Philharmonic in honour of Galina Vishnevskaya, took place at the Peter Chaykovski Cinema and Concert Hall.

Arias from famous operas and pieces from ballets were performed at the Gala Concert by well-known masters of art, and then a short retrospective documentary reflecting Galina Vishnevskaya’s creativity was shown.

A dinner-party in honour of Galina Vishnevskaya

On October 25, a dinner-party was hosted in honour of Galina Vishnevskaya at Metropolis Hotel.

Mehriban Aliyeva attended the dinner-party and congratulated the singer on her jubilee.

The dinner-party was attended by public and political persons of Russia and a number of foreign countries, intelligentsia, masters of art and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
