Regional seminar of UNESCO started its work in Kazan on protection of non-material cultural heritage

On December 15, regional seminar of UNESCO started its work in capital of Tatarstan on protection of non-material cultural heritage. First Lady of Azerbaijani, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO Mehriban Aliyeva is taking part in seminar.

Reps of Culture and Foreign Affairs Ministries of 49 European and North American countries are present in seminar.

International Convention that was adopted in 32nd Session of UNESCO in October of last year in Paris will be discussed. Convention considers protection and propaganda of non-material cultural heritage - national holidays of nations, their traditions and habits, music and folk creativity pearls.

One of these holidays is national Sabantuy holiday of Tatars. On the initiative of Tatarstan Republic Russia proposed inclusion of this holiday in list of UNESCO of folk and non-material heritage. Sabantuy, which has been celebrated for more than eight centuries, is being changed to a holiday of not Tatars only as well nations living Volga region and other regions of Russia.
