Mehriban Aliyeva is conferred on the Sreten Order of the Serbian Republic

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met, June 11, President of the Serbian Republic Tomislav Nicolich, who is on a visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan to attend the opening ceremony of the first European Games. 

Before the meeting, the Sreten Order – a high state order of the Serbian Republic – was presented to Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva at a ceremony with participation of President Ilham Aliyev, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, Serbian President Tomislav Nicolich and his spouse Dragicha Nicolich.

The Decree of the Serbian President on awarding Mehriban Aliyeva the Sreten Order was read. 

Serbian President Tomislav Nicolich presented the order to Mehriban Aliyeva.

Mehriban Aliyeva: Thank you very much, mister President. This is a great honour for me. Thank you very much for this award.

Tomislav Nicolich: You know there is such a saying in Serbia: You cannot choose your family, but you can choose your friends. Thank you for choosing us.

Mehriban Aliyeva: Thank you; I value this award like not only the appreciation of our efforts, but also a sign of friendship and mutual respect between Serbia and Azerbaijan.  Thank you. The Foundation will continue its activity in your nice country. 

Tomislav Nicolich: Thank you.

Mehriban Aliyeva: I wish successes to your team in the European Games.

President Ilham Aliyev: I would also like to congratulate you on the highest award of our friendly country.
