Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva was on a visit to Greece, 27-28 September 2014.
Inauguration of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Athens
The Days of Azerbaijani Culture was launched on September 27.
Within the framework of the Days of Culture, Mehriban Aliyeva met with representative of Greece at the European Council’s Parliament Assembly Dora Bokoyanni, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Marianna Vardinoyannis, President of the Greek Olympic Committee Spirios Kapralos, and dined together with them.
Then inauguration of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in Athens took place. The Days of Culture started by a charitable concert held with the joint organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Greece and the Marina Vardinoyannis Foundation of Greece at Irodio Theatre designed for five thousand people. The State Symphonic Orchestra named after Uzeir Hajibeyli, directed by Fakhraddin Karimov, and the State Dance Ensemble performed at the concert.
Presentation of “Baku-2015” first European Games in Athens
On September 28, presentation of “Baku-2015” first European Games to be held in Azerbaijan in 2015 took place in Acropolis Museum in Athens. Held with the organizational support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the ceremony was attended by Chairperson of the first European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva.
The event was attended by the chairperson of the Greek Parliament, deputy prime minister, the minister of administrative affairs, MPs, representatives of the sports society, minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Greece Rahman Mustafayev.
The ceremony started by demonstration of a documentary about preparation for the European Games.
Mehriban Aliyeva addressed the ceremony.
Then Greek Administrative Reforms Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis, deputy Minister of Culture of Greece Angela Gerekoi, Chairperson of the Greek National Olympic Committee Spirios Kapralos, Olympic champion of Greece for canoe sports type Voula Kozumbali delivered a speech at the ceremony.
The ceremony continued by a concert programme of Azerbaijani masters of art.
