Carpet

A carpet is woven from various woollen or silk threads. Adorned with various ornamental elements and pictures, carpets have been in use for different purposes, from decoration of tents, huts to wall and floor decorations of residential houses, palaces and other buildings.

Carpet-weaving is an ancient type of art. Our ancestors started making carpets back in very old times.

There was a tradition in Azerbaijan to weave a special carpet to reflect a significant history or event such as, for example, carpets woven on the occasion of a child’s birth, as a dowry for girls, as well as for wedding and mourning ceremonies, and for mosques.

A carpet museum has been created in Azerbaijan, and rare examples of the carpet-making art are preserved there.
