President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has sent a letter of condolence to the family and relatives of Turkey’s 9th President Suleyman Demirel in connection with his passing away.
Mehriban Aliyeva noted that by all his life path and the high state activity for the wellbeing of the Turkish Republic, Suleyman Demirel, an eminent political figure of brotherly Turkey and a great friend of the people of Azerbaijan, has gained prestige, profound respect and esteem all over the world, and she expressed deep sorrow for this great man’s passing away.
“Suleyman Demirel has personally made great contribution to preservation, development and strengthening of the centuries-long traditions of friendship, kind neighbourhood and mutual support between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkey. The foundation of new interstate relations, formation and development of strategic partnership between our brotherly countries has been laid by Azerbaijani people’s national leader Heydar Aliyev and Suleyman Demirel, who considered themselves as friends and brothers. It is by no coincidence that for his special services to strengthening of friendly relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Suleyman Demirel was conferred on the order of “Glory”. The friendship of two great sons of our peoples – Heydar Aliyev and Suleyman Demirel – will always remain in our memory as an example.
We believe that this great man, a wise and farsighted politician, who has enjoyed high prestige and shown an example of infinite loyalty towards his people by his activity, will not be forgotten in Azerbaijan, as in his own homeland”, - stated Mehriban Aliyeva.
