President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva acquainted themselves with the works on complex restoration of the ecological condition in Boyukshor Lake and the surrounding area, March 18.
Complex restoration of Boyukshor Lake is being carried out in accordance with “The State Programme for social and economic development of Baku city and its settlements in 2014-2016“ and the Decree ”On additional measures for improving the ecological condition, protection and use of Boyukshor Lake” approved by a Resolution of the President dated 17 January 2014. First phase of the projects to be implemented in two phases will be accomplished in May this year. The second phase will cover the years 2015 to 2020.
The Head of the State was informed of the works done here. It was informed that the lake has been divided into two sections by a 1570-metre long dam. This dam will be the foundation for a road to link Ziya Bunyadov Avenue with Balakhany highway. In the following phase of the project, works on cleaning of the other section of the lake will be performed. Discharge of industrial and domestic waste waters and oil products to Boyukshor Lake has been considerably reduced. Before the project’s execution started, industrial and domestic wastes from 76 points used to be discharged into the lake. Now these sources have been completely removed in the project area, and in the remaining area, their number has been brought down to 36 and is continuing to drop. A sewage line has been built along the south bank of the project area in order to contain waste waters’ discharge into the lake, and in this area, contamination sources have been removed. A boulevard and a park is being laid out on the east and south bank of the project area. The area of the total improvement works is about 15 hectares. The park-boulevard is planned to be given for the use of residents and guests of the capital in May this year.
President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciated the works done here, set relevant tasks and gave recommendations.
