Opening of the Baku Olympic Stadium took place, March 18.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady, Chairperson of the First European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva attended the ceremony.
The foundation of the Baku Olympic Committee was laid on March 6, 2011. The ceremony was attended by President Ilham Aliyev, FIFA President Josef Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini, as well as eminent representatives of the world football society, heads of federations and football veterans. With 82 thousand square metres of greenery laid out around the complex, the Baku Olympic Stadium has been constructed with high quality and is ready for use.
Built in an area of about 50 hectares, the stadium is 62 metres high and has six floors. There are 4 entries to the stadium’s area and 26 doors to the stands. The stadium has the capacity to accommodate 68 thousand spectators. According to Olympic norms, it is provided that people will come to the stadium mostly by foot and using public transport. For this purpose, a car park accommodating 3 thousand 100 cars has been built in the area.
It was informed that works here have been completed. The latest equipment and construction materials have been used in the construction of the stadium.
Stands with various functions, running track and other infrastructure elements have been created at the stadium. Sections for disabled spectators, VVIP, VIP, CIP and media have been constructed at the stadium, which is comprised of the main and secondary stadiums, as well as a mechanical building. All conditions have been created here for the guests comfort.
