Ambassador of the French Republic to Azerbaijan Zacharie Gross welcomed President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva expressed their condolences in connection with former French President Jacques Chirac’s passing away, writing their heartfelt words in the book of grief.

Talking to the ambassador, President Ilham Aliyev said: Mister Ambassador, please accept our condolences. President Jacques Chirac was a friend of Azerbaijan. We had known him from the time when his personal friendly relations with my father started, and thanks to their joint efforts, very close partnership relations were established between our countries. We remember our meetings with him. As you know, when I was first elected president, my first visit to a foreign country started with Paris. At the time, Jacques Chirac was the first head of a foreign state to have invited me to come on an official visit, and this was a very good sign of our cooperation. Ever since, the cooperation between our countries have been advancing successfully. During the meeting we have had recently with you, I shared my recollections of my meetings with your presidents. Once more, please accept our condolences.

Ambassador Zacharie Gross said: Mister President, respected First vice-president, thank You for visiting us, and for your words. On behalf of President Macron and the people of France, I want to say that we highly appreciate your sincere words, and your visit. As You have mentioned, President Jacques Chirac was a state person who advocated for peace, playing a consolidating role in France and on the international arena. We have been moved by your visit. Thank you.
