President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met, March 6, head of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis in Vatican.
An official welcoming ceremony took place for President Ilham Aliyev and Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva.
At the meeting of President Ilham Aliyev, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva and head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis, satisfaction was expressed with the level of the bilateral relations between Vatican and Azerbaijan, and it was underscored that these relations have good perspectives. It was also emphasized at the meeting that Vatican highly appreciates the relations with Azerbaijan and the importance that Azerbaijan has been attaching to relations between cultures and religions has played a significant role in the development of bilateral cooperation. Azerbaijan’s having a tolerant environment and representatives of all religious confessions living in a peaceful and tranquil environment in this country was emphasized too.
During the talks, significance of various cultural projects implemented recent years by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation – headed by Mehriban Aliyeva – was underscored.
At the end of the meeting, souvenirs were presented mutually.
